Dallas City Council has passed an ordinance amending Ch 27, Sec 27-3 of the Dallas City Code which expands the definition of "urban nuisance." According to City Council members this will allow the city to more easily seize private property city officials deem unsafe.
As amended, the code would now consider the following to be an urban nuisance under the Code:
- A structure, regardless of its condition, that is unoccupied by its owners, lessees or other invitees, that is from unauthorized entry unsecured. The purpose is to prevent vacant or abandoned properties from being entered or used by vagrants or other uninvited persons as a shelter or residence, or entered or used by children for any reason.
- A structure that has been secured (boarded, fenced, etc) inadequately so that it still presents a public danger or is capable of entry.
