Summit County New Foreclosure Fee

Summit County Council adopted and approved Ordinance 2008-394 on September 29, 2008.  It is effective January 1, 2009.

Summary 

  • This emergency ordinance provides funding for the Summit County Office of Consumer Affairs and the Sheriff's Foreclosure Task Force.   
  • Beginning January 1, 2009,  the Summit County Sheriff will collect a $200 "foreclosure prevention and education fee" from each successful bidder on foreclosed property sold at Sheriff's Sale in Summit County, Ohio. 
    • This $200 will be deposited into a Foreclosure Education and Prevention Fund. 
  • The $200 fee must be paid to the Sheriff as part of the deposit funds paid by the purchaser at this sale.  
  • The foreclosure prevention and education fee must be paid to the Sheriff as part of the deposit made by the purchaser at Sheriff's Sale. 
    • If this fee is not paid at the time of sale, the foreclosed property may be immediately re-offered for sale by the Sheriff.
