Missouri SB 131
Monday, 16 March 2009
Proposed Missouri SB 131 was first read on 1/7/09 and on 3/5/09 was voted Do Pass by the Senate Jobs, Economic Development and Local Government Committee.
Proposed Missouri SB 131 would allow St Louis and any other city in Missouri with a charter form of government and population greater than 1,000,000 inhabitants to increase its semiannual vacant property registration fee up to a maximum of $2000. The current maximum semiannual registration fee is $200.
The bill amends existing Missouri law which empowers municipalities to enact property registration ordinances and to impose registration fees; place liens and foreclose on property for which the registration fee remains unpaid, and allowing the owner to redeem the property by providing evidence that any applicable housing code violations have been remedied and all registration fees and penalties paid.
