Michigan HB 4453 and 4455 Proposed Legislation
Monday, 18 May 2009
Michigan HB 4453 and HB 4455, each introduced on 2/26/2009,  were agreed on May 14, 2009 by Michigan’s congressional conference committee.  This proposed legislation would give borrowers a 90-day window to consult with housing counselors and their servicers in an attempt to avoid foreclosure.  The bills encourage greater communication and negotiation between servicers and borrowers

The legislation provides a 90 day foreclosure moratorium, which begins to toll after the foreclosure notice has been sent to a borrower. Upon receipt, the borrower has 14 days to request an in-person meeting with the lender.
