National Property Preservation Conference 2004 HUD Sessions Summary
Thursday, 18 November 2004

We would like to thank everyone who attended the National Property Preservation Conference 2004 in Washington DC in November 2004.

As you may be aware, this conference was the first event with two full days dedicated exclusively to property preservation, for the benefit of all sectors of the industry concerned with preservation and protection issues.  The conference attendees benefited from the participation of representatives from HUD, FNMA, FHLMC, VA, code enforcement officials from around the country, mortgage servicers, and field service providers.

Joe McCloskey, HUD Director of Single Family Asset Management, opened the conference with a compelling Keynote Address.  A summary and the audio recording of his speech are available at content/view/298/36/.

The first full day of the conference was devoted to HUD issues.  We held four consecutive sessions and managed to cover a wide range of topics.  Session participants and panelists included representatives from HUD Washington, the four HOC REO Directors, mortgage servicers, field service providers, and other industry professionals.  We were very fortunate in that the timing of the conference coincided with the implementation of the new HUD M&M contracts, and this event provided us with an opportunity to meet most of the new M&M representatives and HUD staff and to discuss many of the issues and changes associated with that implementation.

A written summary of the HUD sessions, reviewed and approved by HUD, is available through the link below:

Italicized text in the body of the summary indicates a remark or clarification provided by HUD upon their review of the summary.

Please feel free to respond to Robert Klein (robert.klein@safeguardproperties.com) with any comments about the summary.

A summary of the second day sessions involving VA, FNMA, FHLMC, and code enforcement issues will  be posted very soon.  We also will be making audio and video recordings of the entire conference available in the near future.

Thank you again to all the conference participants.
