In early January of this year, SPI distributed an Alert providing information reporting a new program in the city of Detroit to address urban blight. The program is called Blight Court, and it represents a more aggressive approach by the city to code enforcement, blight prevention, and prosecution for violations. Since that Alert, SPI has had a number of conversations with code officials in the city of Detroit. At our request, they recently provided us with an electronic copy of a publication titled "Citizens' Guide [to the] Department of Administrative Hearings." You can review this 24-page publication by clicking on Detroit Citizens' Guide Dept. of Administrative Hearings. [You will need Adobe Version 6.0 or later to open this document.] The city also prepared a summary fact sheet with some background and contact information for the Department of Administrative Hearings. The fact sheet is posted at Detroit Dept. of Administrative Hearings Fact Sheet. If you have any questions about these documents, or about any other code compliance issues in Detroit or other jurisdictions, please contact High Risk Manager Steve Meyer (steve.meyer@safeguardproperties.com, or by telephone at ext. 1179) or High Risk Specialist J. Schwegel (nicholas.schwegel@safeguardproperties.com, or by telephone at ext. 1123).
