Updated (October 28th 2005) - Katrina On September 24th 2005, FEMA issued Presidential Disaster Declarations for the states of Louisiana and Texas as a result of Hurricane Rita. Five parishes (counties) in Louisiana and nine counties in Texas were made eligible for Individual Assistance. Both states in their entirety were made eligible for Public Assistance. Recent statements and information releases by the Investors (HUD/VA/Fannie Mae/FHLMC) place significance on the categories of Individual and Public Assistance, when providing guidance to the servicers in regards to issues of forbearance, moratoriums and the release of insurance proceeds. (Updated 10/20th)Between September 27th and October 18th, FEMA added an additional eighteen parishes to the Louisiana Declaration for Hurricanr Rita as being eligible for Individual Assistance. The eighteen parishes are Acadia, Allen, Ascension, Evangeline, Jefferson, Lafeyette, Lafourche, Livingston, Iberia, Plaquemines, Sabine, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Terrebonne, Vernon and West Baton Rouge. In addtion, FEMA has added 13 counties to the Texas Declaration as being eligible for Individual Assistance. The thirtenn counties are Angelina, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Harris, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Trinity, and Walker.
