dilapidated and otherwise neglected
properties.
Richfield MN Code Enforement Richfield increases property inspections Richfield is intensifying its efforts to clean up problem properties, as officials say it will help reduce crime. The city says it will inspect all of its residences and businesses, and issue property owners as many violations as necessary. Richfield Community Service Officer Charlie O’Brien and three other officers will inspect the more than 10,000 properties for the first time in at least 20 years. "If neighborhoods are allowed to deteriorate, you will have more crime,” O’Brien says. “You will have more problems that require police to intervene in the neighborhoods." Officers will be looking for such violations as fences falling down, torn carpet on stairs and wood stacked in backyards. Resident Emmanuel Jordan, who was cited for some wood pallets stacked behind his house, says he thinks the increased enforcement is a good idea. ”It makes the property owner keep up with the property, which doesn't bring the value down for neighborhood owners,” Jordan says. The initial notice does not carry a fine, but the owners must resolve the problem in five days. A second notice is then issued, and can then be followed by a fine of up to $100 or more.
