Safeguard places a high value on corporate social responsibility. We are committed to being a responsible industry partner, working with businesses, communities, and governments to help advance social and economic well-being. We understand that the generosity in which we give back to the community is a core component of who we are. We continually strive to understand the impact of our actions on our clients and employees and we strive to build mutually beneficial relationships with them. Our goal is to maintain high ethical standards and create a culture that consists of honesty and integrity. We view community involvement as another important way we can make a difference where we live and work. We do this by supporting local civic organizations, including fire and police as well as involvement in local charitable events.
Leading the Fight against Neighborhood Blight
Safeguard has been an active corporate citizen in assisting our clients and local governments to improve communication for the purpose of combating blight in our nation's neighborhoods. Safeguard has voluntarily led a cooperative effort to protect the community and its citizens from the nuisances and dangers associated with vacant and abandoned properties. Safeguard and our clients have proactively worked with city officials around the country to maintain the integrity of vacant properties. We have developed strong public/private partnerships to address vacant property issues with cities including Chicago, Los Angeles, Riverside, Cleveland, Detroit, and Dearborn. Safeguard also routinely releases industry alerts with important information about new programs and initiatives or other news affecting various cities. Recently, we have established a partnership with the National Vacant Properties Campaign with the intention of creating innovative ways to improve industry communication and education surrounding Community Blight issues.
Corporate Giving and Volunteerism
In addition to fulfilling our responsibilities attached to our normal business activities Safeguard makes significant, voluntary corporate citizenship commitments that contribute to the social well-being and sustainability of these communities. Safeguard has been an active participant in various Habitat for Humanity projects and our employees have taken a leading role in a number of community projects such as Race for the Cure, Make a Wish Foundation, Toys for Tots and the Animal Protection League. We have created an annual corporate donation schedule that allows employees to nominate a charity event to support quarterly. Our most recent charitable event was for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, where we raised contributions that were donated to the Red Cross for the hurricane victims. In addition, our CEO, Robert Klein and his wife made a personal donation by creating a Fund to be used for victims of Hurricane Katrina. In making the gift, Mr. Klein said:
"My company has been working non-stop in the hurricane recovery effort by providing support to homeowners and the mortgage industry in New Orleans and all the Gulf States devastated by Hurricane Katrina. In addition, as human beings seeing the devastation firsthand, we have been deeply struck and touched by the heartache this and other hurricanes have caused to people with severe disabilities. Their plight has stayed hidden under the radar screen, and it is our hope that this donation will make the first dent in addressing their special needs. It is also our hope that others within the business and philanthropic communities will come forth to help those who have been most in need of recovery and rehabilitation."
We also provide numerous monetary donations to our clients for each of their charity campaigns throughout the year. We believe in the concept of actively participating in events that our clients believe to be important.
