Memo 5023 - Accurate Reporting of Occupancy Status

As communicated in Memo 5018 - Accuracy of Inspection Results, accuracy of inspection results is crucial to providing our clients with the information and tools necessary to determine how to preserve and protect the property.

In recent months we have seen an increase in properties being incorrectly reported as occupied following an initial secure completed by Safeguard. Contractors are required to post the Safeguard Securing & Contact Sticker on the main door at the property to notify mortgagors, realtors, city officials, and utility companies to contact Safeguard Properties with any questions or access requests regarding the property.

The presence of a securing sticker, contact with utility companies and communication with neighbors should all be noted and taken into account when determining occupancy status. If you take all possible steps to assure that you are reporting and properly documenting correct occupancy status before submitting your results, you can greatly decrease the amount of follow-up questions and requests for additional photos from Safeguard.
