Safeguard Announces Several New Appointments and Promotions
In two recent announcements, Safeguard welcomes three new executive members to its management team, as well as one internal promotion.
Valley View, OH, September 18, 2012 — Safeguard Properties announced the following appointments and promotion within its executive and management teams:
Linda Erkkila, general counsel. Erkkila manages all aspects of Safeguard’s legal department, including client contracts, claims, litigation, settlements, insurance matters, and activity related to mergers, acquisition and joint ventures, as well as addressing regulatory issues that impact Safeguard’s operations. Most recently, Erkkila served as securities and corporate governance counsel for Agilysys Inc., with responsibility for the company’s public disclosure, corporate governance compliance, risk assessment and merger and acquisition activity. Prior to Agilysys, Erkkila served as a vice president in National City’s law department. She also served as an associate at Thompson Hine LLP in Cleveland. Erkkila earned her JD at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, her MBA from Cleveland State University, and her bachelor’s degree in economics from Miami University in Ohio.
Jennifer Jozity, promoted to assistant vice president, inspections operations. Jozity is responsible for all aspects of the inspections service line, including order entry, client relations, regional coordination and operations. She ensures quality work is performed in the field and internally, to meet and exceed our clients’ expectations. Jozity joined Safeguard in 1997 and was promoted to director of inspections operations in 2009. Jozity graduated from Cleveland State University with a degree in business.
John Gonos, director, training. Gonos is responsible for all training initiatives for new and existing employees, including all production and operational training and supervisory and leadership development. Gonos has held several training and development leadership positions at regional and national retailers including OfficeMax, where he held the position of director of training and development. He has led award winning teams in the creation, development and delivery of innovative training initiatives that expanded the traditional bounds of training. Gonos is a graduate of Kent State University and is a member of The American Society for Training and Development.

Sandy Opacich, vice president, human capital. Opacich was appointed to this newly created executive position to provide leadership for the Human Resources function and programs related to talent acquisition and management, employee and leadership development, compensation and benefits, and HR infrastructure/systems to ensure alignment with business objectives and strengthen organizational growth and performance. Prior to joining Safeguard, Opacich served as the director of human resources services at Medical Mutual in Cleveland for 11 years where she developed and led the employment services function, learning and organizational development, leadership development and implemented a centralized HR Business Partner model for delivering HR solutions to the business. She also served as executive vice president of human resources for LakeWest Group Ltd. and senior vice president and director of human resources for McDonald Investments Inc. both in Cleveland. Opacich earned her bachelor of science in business administration from John Carroll University and her MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.
